The university was founded in Berlin in 1810, and the visionary foundation concept which Wilhelm von Humboldt had put forward made it the "mother of all modern universities": Unity of research and teaching, independence of science and an all-round humanistic education of students became a model for many universites in the world.
The teaching and research profile of the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (Humboldt University of Berlin) comprises in 9 Faculties with 189 Study courses all major science disciplines in Arts and Humanities, Human Medicine, Agriculture as well as Mathematics and Natural Sciences. In total 29 Nobel prizes were awarded to scholars and scientists of the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, among them Albert Einstein, Max Planck, Robert Koch and Fritz Haber. Also many famous people such as Otto von Bismarck, Heinrich Heine and Karl Marx were enrolled at the "Alma mater" of Berlin. This tradition is continued in 2019: Berlin University Alliance has won funding as a group in the Universities of Excellence funding line of the German government's Excellence Strategy. The Berlin University Alliance is composed of four institutions: Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Freie Universität Berlin, Technische Universität Berlin and Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin.
The Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin maintains academic partnerships with more than 500 universities. Traditionally close ties exist with North, Middle and Eastern Europe as well as strong co-operations with the USA, Asia, Cuba and the Southern African region. The university runs since years the biggest project within the Eastern Europe partnership programme of DAAD (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst). International mobility of students is important to the university; more than 800 students pass every year a part of their studies abroad and the university welcomes around 1.200 incoming international students. Beside this around 800 researchers from all over the world stay every year at Berlins oldest university.

Co-operation for Stellenticket HU zu Berlin is headed by the Career Center of the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. The Career Center of the "HU" plays a decisive part in the attempt to bring work related competences and experiences towards our students. It supports students and graduates of all faculties through diverse training courses and consulting services in their professional orientation and for their step into work life. The Career Center is also a recruiting partner for companies and institutions on the search for qualified staff.
