The HTWK Leipzig (Leipzig University of Applied Sciences) was founded in 1992, but with its six faculties it already looks back on numerous, much older traditions. One of the preceding institutions was, for example, the Royal Saxon School of Construction which was founded in 1838. Today, with about 6.200 students, the HTWK Leipzig offers a wide range of application-oriented programmes in the fields of Engineering, Business and Social Sciences, Informatics and Mathematics as well as Applied Media, Information and Cultural Sciences.
With its application-oriented and interdisciplinary perspective, the HTWK Leipzig addresses urgent societal challenges of our time: dwindling resources, information flood in a knowledge society, healthcare in our aging society or responsible actions in favor of future generations.
Focusing on Engineering Sciences and Technology, the broad profile of HTWK Leipzig is unique within its region. The percentage of students in the STEM fields adds up to 70%, in the humanities and social sciences the percentage is 30%. The admission to all undergraduate programmes is accredited and - due to an increasing demand - restricted. As a result of the practice-oriented focus and the high level of education, graduates of the HTWK are highly demanded on the job market - regional as well as nationwide.
With about 10 Million € third-party funds (2017) and about 58.000 € third-party funds per professor, HTWK Leipzig is one of the most research-intensive German Universities of Applied Sciences.
