Tech­ni­sche Uni­ver­si­tät Dres­den - Faculty of Arts, Huma­nities and Social Sci­ence, Insti­tute of Socio­logy

The TU Dres­den is one of ele­ven Ger­man uni­ver­si­ties that were iden­ti­fied as an “excel­lence uni­ver­sity”. TUD has about 36.500 stu­dents and almost 5319 employees, 507 pro­fes­sors among them, and, thus, is the lar­gest uni­ver­sity in Sax­ony, today.

Having been com­mit­ted to sci­en­ces and the engi­nee­ring before the reuni­fi­ca­tion of Ger­many, TU Dres­den now is a multi-disci­pline uni­ver­sity, also offe­ring huma­nities and social sci­en­ces as well as medi­cine.

Junior Pro­fes­sor­ship (W1) in Micro-Socio­logy and techno-social Inter­ac­tions (W3 with Ten­ure Track)

As part of the Ten­ure Track Pro­gramme, the Insti­tute of Socio­logy at the Faculty of Arts, Huma­nities and Social Sci­ence invi­tes app­li­ca­ti­ons for the Junior Pro­fes­sor­ship (W1) in Micro-Socio­logy and techno-social Inter­ac­tions (W3 with Ten­ure Track) initi­ally limi­ted to a four-year con­tract as a tem­porary offi­cial, to be fil­led at the ear­liest pos­si­ble date. If the inte­rim eva­lua­tion is posi­tive, the con­tract will be exten­ded to a total of six years. In the fifth year, a ten­ure eva­lua­tion will be car­ried out by a faculty-wide and school-wide com­mis­sion. Fol­lo­wing a posi­tive eva­lua­tion, a per­ma­nent Chair (W3) of Micro-Socio­logy and techno-social Inter­ac­tions will be gran­ted without a rene­wed call for app­li­ca­ti­ons.

Work­ing field:

The app­li­cant is expec­ted to be an expert in the ana­ly­sis of social micro­struc­tu­res. Spe­cial empha­sis shall be pla­ced on tech­ni­cally media­ted social inter­ac­tion. Important topics include the change of socie­tal rela­ti­ons­hips, forms of life and family, gen­der rela­ti­ons, pat­terns of inter­ac­tion and ever­y­day prac­tices, with regard to the con­se­quen­ces of digi­ti­sa­tion, and in inter­ac­tion with par­al­lel meta-pro­ces­ses, such as glo­ba­li­sa­tion and eco­no­mi­sa­tion. The app­li­cant’s rese­arch foci should be con­nec­ta­ble to the huma­nities and social sci­en­ces Rese­arch Prio­rity Area of TU Dres­den: “Cul­ture and Socie­tal Change”. Coope­ra­tion with the Cen­ter for Inte­gra­tion Rese­arch and the Col­la­bo­ra­tive Rese­arch Centre 1285 “Invec­tivity. Con­stel­la­ti­ons and Dyna­mics of Dis­pa­ra­ge­ment” is desi­ra­ble. The wil­ling­ness and ability to con­duct cour­ses in Eng­lish is expec­ted. The invol­ve­ment in com­mit­tees of aca­de­mic self-admi­nis­tra­tion, com­mis­si­ons and work groups is also requi­red.

Require­ments:

Eva­lua­tion cri­te­ria mutually agreed upon when the posi­tion is accep­ted will form the basis of the eva­lua­tion pro­ce­du­res. Essen­tial ele­ments of the eva­lua­ti­ons will be the sci­en­ti­fic suc­cess in the form of qua­li­fied publi­ca­ti­ons that have been asses­sed in con­for­mity with inter­na­tio­nal stan­dards, the suc­cess­ful acqui­si­tion of third-party funds, docu­men­ted com­mit­ment in for­mats of know­ledge trans­fer, trans­di­sci­pli­nary com­mit­ment and esta­blish­ment of coope­ra­ti­ons with sci­en­tists from the STEM areas, as well as deve­lo­ping and car­ry­ing out lec­tu­res dedi­ca­ted to the rese­arch area, also in Eng­lish, with posi­tively eva­lua­ted teaching per­for­mance.
App­li­cants must ful­fil the employ­ment qua­li­fi­ca­tion requi­re­ments of § 63 of the Act on the Auto­nomy of Insti­tu­ti­ons of Hig­her Edu­ca­tion in the Free State of Sax­ony (Hig­her Edu­ca­tion Act of the Free State of Sax­ony – SächsHSFG).

Toge­ther with the School of Huma­nities and Social Sci­en­ces, the Faculty of Arts, Huma­nities and Social Sci­ence and the Insti­tute of Socio­logy, TU Dres­den takes an inte­gra­ted approach to streng­t­hen the stra­te­gic Rese­arch Prio­rity Area “Cul­ture and Socie­tal Change” through excel­lent rese­arch and attrac­tive teaching offers gea­red towards pro­mi­sing topics and methods. During the tem­porary Junior Pro­fes­sor­ship, the app­li­cant must prove that they are capa­ble of repre­sen­ting the sub­ject area in teaching in the Bache­lor’s and Mas­ter’s pro­gramme Socio­logy, as well as in the teacher trai­ning pro­gram­mes and in rese­arch.

TU Dres­den sup­ports ten­ure track pro­fes­sors with a pro­gramme spe­ci­fi­cally tailo­red to their needs. Men­to­ring, various coa­ching ses­si­ons, and spe­cial con­ti­nuing edu­ca­tion pro­gram­mes and sup­port offers pro­vide active pro­fes­sio­nal gui­dance throughout the dura­tion of the tem­porary Junior Pro­fes­sor­ship.
